Seventy Years Young!
August 29, 2017
Since this in my 70th birthday week, I decided that I would try writing a blog, this is my
first try. A gift to myself. I can’t believe that I am 70 and a Baby
Boomer. Thankfully I feel young in my mind, however the body is not always as easy to convince these days.
A little information about the name of the blog. Life is easily compared to a piece of cake……takes several ingredients, conditions and utensils to make a cake. There must be a balance of those ingredients, otherwise you will have a failure on your hands or maybe something you can actually eat, but not so tasty. Life is the same way, all of our life events, issues, celebrations, jobs, our family culture and many other pieces and parts to make a good life. Our relationship with God is a huge part of this life story…….because He takes what we give Him and causes it to all come together for good when we make a decision to give ourselves to Him. Depending on how we choose to navigate this road of life helps determine the outcome. So with that said, just a little insight as to why this blog is called Life is a Piece of Cake!!
I started this blog because of my love for all things Tea and I want to connect with people who have that same passion. It all started when I got my first computer years ago, I decided I would try using a feature on AOL that you could search for like minded people. After filling out my profile and posting my interest in Tea, I waded into the unknown. I met a lady from Minnesota, her name is Lisa and she ran a tea room in St. Paul, Minnesota called Embellish Tea Room. I would ask her questions as if I were composing an email and she would answer in "chat room" speak using abbreviations and I was so embarrassed because I had no clue how to reply! But I kept at it and we would chat periodically. Then a while later she coincidentally moved to Greensboro, NC for her husbands job transfer and now we were just a few miles apart!
We soon met for Afternoon Tea and it
was like we had known each other forever. She was the same age as my
daughter, and our lives had taken almost identical paths. I have always
felt that God connected us for many reasons. She sold the tea room but started a custom loose leaf tea blending business. I watched it grow and I would
support her through the purchase of her teas and give her my feedback on flavors. When I would have my own tea parties, the ladies
always looked forward to me serving Southern Pecan or the Chocolate
Raspberry flavors. We were all addicted but had to limit our
consumption of our additions of sugar and cream, because it was like
drinking a dessert!
Anyway, I have always been in awe of how God has
brought kindred souls into my life. For example, I grew up in rural North Carolina, a very
southern girl and although my family went to Florida each year at
Christmas and to the beach in the summer, I really didn’t know many
people who were not from my area. I started going to a large church and
met people from all over the USA and other countries. One of
my best friends, Christoulla, grew up in Cyprus until she was a teenager then later moved to
New York City As God would have it, we met and became great friends
even though we came from very different cultures. So these two ladies
are just a couple of examples of how God works in our lives and I am
thankful for that.
Here's to more meet ups and happy sipping!
